High Success Rates
Over 95% of our patients are very pleased with their results. One of the most commonly remarks from our clients is "It's simply amazing! How is does it work? Why is this so amazing?" Other questions are, "I came in for headaches, why am I being treated in my hands or feet?" The easiest answer to this question lays in understanding the root or cause of the symptom. In eastern medicine the goal is always to find the root cause of the symptom(s) and treat that, rather than only treating the symptom. You may have a headache, but the cause of the headache, or the best access to the cause, may be located in the hands or feet, nowhere near the symptom. This has a lot to do with reflexology. Here are some other explanations on our main principles for treating pain.

Case Studies - Indications of Acupuncture Therapy for Pain Management
Lumbar Disc Herniation
Medical science tells us that discs presenting the same symptoms should be the same cause, and it is with some patients. Hospitals find after CT, and MRI examinations that the results are different disc herniations. After clinical research we find that most of the pain associated with herniated discs is actually due to muscle tension caused body mechanics. Painful symptoms caused by the herniation of discs are actually relatively rare. We can apply the principal of Acupuncture to restore balance to the muscle tension and bring back normal muscle mechanics and resolve the disc herniation.
Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder often occurs in people age 50 or so, and is more common with women than men. There is a slow onset of the main symptoms: pain, limited range of motion (ROM), pressure, and muscle atrophy. According to Professor Hu Chaowei’s years of clinical research, frozen shoulder is not just due to local muscle tissue tension or stress. In order to find the cause of frozen shoulder we must study the postural pattern that lead to the muscle tension that is causing the pain and stiffness. If we find the cause the treatment will be immediately effective.
Knee Pain
Knee pain and disease is one of the most common diseases in elderly people, however it can occur at any age. For every pound of weight we carry is four times heavier to the knee joint, and when walking up or down stairs that weight increases to 7-10 pounds more. To figure out the right method of treatment we must look at the anatomy of the pain. What action is causing the pain and what muscles are involved in that action? If the pain occurs when walking down stairs, the treatment would be different than if the pain occurred when walking upstairs. When we find the muscles involved in the action that is causing the pain the treatment will be effective and instantaneous.
Tennis Elbow
Traditional therapy treats the pain locally at the elbow. Sometimes this approach is effective, other times it has no effect at all. The reason for this is because we must first find where the muscle tension originated and treat the pain according to the patients movement. This treatment is very precise and specific to the patient therefore is very effective
Heel Spurs
We often assume that heel pain is the result of a heel spur formation. Bone spurs can develop from a number of different imbalances. These imbalances allow for bone spurs to grow, but it is the swelling and inflammation that result from the imbalance that cause the pain. There are a number different foot disorders that result from these imbalances and produce the same or similar symptoms. Plantar fasciitis, bunions, and hammer toes are examples of some. We work both locally and systemically to correct the imbalance.
Pain Management Theories
In addition to traditional meridian theories, there are four additional theories that guide our diagnosis and treatment processes for pain.
Theory of Leverage
Deep internal disease, discomfort, or pain can be managed using acupuncture (external treatment). Many internal diseases such as; high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, can be treated externally by focusing the meridian that governs the disease or pain. This is a safe non invasive treatment that offers long-lasting results by getting to root cause of the problem.
Rod Theory
Many times the point where our symptoms present is not point where the injury or disease originated. We may find that real onset is in a muscle or ligament to the left, right, front, or back of where the symptoms presents. In this example if your neck was pulling to the left side, the injury most likely started on the right side so the right side should be treated.
Chain Theory
In this theory we can think of pain as chain of action. As with tennis elbow the chain of pain may have started in the shoulder but is presenting itself further down the muscle chain in the elbow area. If we were to start treatment in the elbow the pain may not subside because it is too far down the chain. We must focus treatment on shoulder where the chain begins.
Bowstring Theory
In the bowstring theory the focus is on the spine which is represented by the bow and the soft tissue represents the strings. The treatment would be focused on the three points of the string, the top, bottom, and outer-most middle. For instance if the neck was bending to far forward, a common condition caused from working at a desk or computer, the treatment would focus on the soft tissue at C1 and C7 to bring the spine back into alignment.
